The immune system is a highly complex system composed of different types of white blood cells whose job it is to detect and eliminate invading pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses. The cells of the immune system include T cells, which target infected cells and coordinate the immune response; B cells that make antibodies to “flag” pathogens, macrophages, and neutrophils engulf; and natural killer (NK) cells that cause the death of infected cells.

While mushrooms are strong immune influencers, for sustainable benefits, it is important to address any underlying stress-induced immune suppression. One herb that assists in stress regulation is holy basil (Ocimum sanctum), which has both stress-relieving and immune benefits.
